In addition to my 15 years working in the financial sector, I've also built and grown a vast array of businesses, ranging from document destruction, to high-tech metallurgical coatings, to running a web-based wine tour company and beyond. The Unabridged Version of My Story
This story begins with me, Michael Weiner, President and Founder of Optimal Approach. I began my career in public accounting in 1980 with Price Waterhouse. After two years spent specializing in income tax preparation, I moved to a small local firm so I could learn more about the small business owner.
I wanted to learn how to best serve this type of business owner, not only with income tax strategies, but also how to maximize the growth of their business. I found that the best way to achieve growth was through a thorough review of the business’s present situation, followed by a strategic business plan for success.
I realized how much I enjoyed the planning process with my clients, so I began the firm of Weiner Associates to dedicate myself to providing full-service financial planning as well as accounting and tax services to my clients. After ten years of successfully running Weiner Associates, one of my clients invited me to serve as the President of a new company that he was forming. I recognized this as a great opportunity to learn about business from the owner’s perspective.
After experiencing the inner workings of that business, I was committed, and spent the next 25 years owning and operating several different businesses across a variety of industries. I looked for opportunities in the market, and started businesses that made sense for growth and that sparked my intrigue, learning many valuable lessons in the process. My industry experience has been vast, ranging from owning & operating a high-tech metallurgical coatings company to running a web-based wine tour company. I even owned a Cold Stone Creamery at one point, which taught me the advantages, disadvantages, and “watch out for’s” of becoming a franchisee.
Throughout these years, I learned so many lessons about what it takes to start, operate, and grow businesses across all different sectors, and have walked miles and miles in the shoes of a small business owner.
When COVID-19 happened, I was presented with an opportunity to return to public accounting, and share my business ownership experience with other business owners that could benefit from my knowledge, beyond accounting.
Returning to my roots, I am happy to be helping our clients with their bookkeeping needs with a degree of knowledge and experience that traditional bookkeepers, and most accountants, just don't have.
Due to my years of industry experience, I bring to the table an added perspective of being a business owner. I understand the many challenges of operations from firsthand experience. Combining that knowledge with my accounting expertise, Optimal Approach is committed to providing an unparalleled level of service to our clients that need accounting, and/or tax support.
